Modern breast implants were first introduced in 1962 , and
have remained popular with only minor design changes for almost
40 years. They have been used successfully in approximately
two million patients; 65% of women with implants have them
for cosmetic reasons while 35% are for reconstructive purposes.
A survey conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
in 1990 showed breast augmentation to be the 2nd most popular
plastic surgery procedure (following liposuction). Of the
women who had implants for cosmetic purposes, over 95% expressed
satisfaction and said they would do it again.
Breast augmentation is accomplished by surgically
inserting an implant either beneath the breast or
under the muscle between the breast and chest wall.
Dr. Haas uses the sub-muscular placement in most cases,
and gives his patients a choice in style of implants
