Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, or breast enlargement will enhance the size and shape of the breast. This procedure is most often performed to add fullness to underdeveloped breasts, to increase volume in breast after pregnancy, to balance breast size, or to reconstruct the breast following a surgical procedure.

Modern breast implants were first introduced in 1962 , and have remained popular with only minor design changes for almost 40 years. They have been used successfully in approximately two million patients; 65% of women with implants have them for cosmetic reasons while 35% are for reconstructive purposes. A survey conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 1990 showed breast augmentation to be the 2nd most popular plastic surgery procedure (following liposuction). Of the women who had implants for cosmetic purposes, over 95% expressed satisfaction and said they would do it again.

Breast augmentation is accomplished by surgically inserting an implant either beneath the breast or under the muscle between the breast and chest wall. Dr. Haas uses the sub-muscular placement in most cases, and gives his patients a choice in style of implants (round and teardrop) and incision location (inframammary crease, areola or belly button).
